George E. Ketchum Letter Book, 1842-1849.

Contains personal and business correspondence from George E. Ketchum, master of the ships Bazar and Kensington to friends and owners and agents of the vessels. The correspondence covers markets, currencies, and prices on various cargos, inlcuding metals such as tin and copper, foodstuffs such as rice, coffee, tea, sugar, and meat, as well as medicines, indigo, different tyupes of colthe, coradage, rifles, camphor, and japan wood. There are references to opium, watches, pencil caes, and clothing. Also covers disburusements and payments, disputed claims, and several scandals, both personla and business. Conditions in ports which include Kensington, Batavia, Singapore, Macao, Ampunan Islands, Ballybadong, Manila, Hong Kong, New York, Havre and Whampoa.
